I saw how beautiful you are today

This is a poem that I wrote to Chantelle shortly after she turned 12 years old...

I saw how beautiful you are today

I came home, tired from the day
Worrying about all the things
That I brought home today
Walking up the stairs
I don’t know what I’ll find
And there I saw you
As if for very the first time

You’ve always been my baby
It’s just the way I perceive you
I’ve known you all your life
But now, I truly see you
My sweet little angel,
I saw how beautiful you are today

Tears are welling up in my eyes
As I look at you sitting there
The world is your oyster
And you don’t even have a care
You’re loveliness is trickling out
No glue can keep it in
My little girl is growing up
I don’t know where to begin

Flowing golden locks, eyes of blue
An air of sweetness that is true
My baby’s twelve on this very day
And all I can do is cry…
I saw how beautiful you are today

Daddy’s little girl is growing up
You’ll be walking down the aisle soon
As tears stream down my face now
The shifting clouds introduce the moon
