Why R We Slamming Obama?

Why is extending a hand, not a fist so bad? Why is loving our 'neighbors' so wrong? Why not 'give peace a chance'? Why do we have to kill in the name of the flag and God? Why is helping those in need not our very first priority? Why do we feel so sure that killing those who have killed is right? Why is life so precious when unborn, but not so much when it has lived...even any after it has made some very bad decisions? Does God love the USA so much more than everybody else? Was Jesus white? ("If English was good enough for Jesus than it's good enough for me"!) Why is supporting 'big business' so good, but supporting the government, 'for the people' so wrong? Why is it so ingrained in our souls that "we are right" and "they are wrong"? I KNOW that God loves the US more than France, but the rest of the world? Hmmm...Why do we spend more money on our pets than in helping the poor? Can anybody envision Jesus with a dog? How much further would the Gospel have been spread in Acts if Birkenstock's were around? Why hasn't Batman captured Dick (the Penguin) Cheney yet? Is torture EVER justified. (which scripture is that in again???). If we call it "really uncomfortable" instead of torture, than its not torture, right? Does the killing of an abortion doctor get you into heaven? What about a late term abortion doctor, surely? Will the abortion doctor that was gunned down (outside of the church that he was an usher in, as his wife looked on from the choir) go to heaven? Do the "Ends" EVER justify the "Means"...ever? My head is spinning, I need to go to church and pray about these questions.

  1. We're all praying about these questions, and not just in church. When do we receive the definitive answer? Here and now, or later?
    Much later... Heaven? We keep our minds, hearts and souls open for God to show us the way, the particular path He has for each of us. What's right for you may not be "right" for me. If it were all black and white, then voila! No problem. Fortunately, His ways are mysterious and as we follow the path, we partake in the mystery. Now I'm glad it's not "easy". We wouldn't blossom and unfold, we'd be become stale like old crackers. When I encourage you, I encourage myself. The world can make us weary.

  2. For me, I think Obama (and/or his speech writer) say some things that I like. Not everything, but some things.

    However, my biggest worry is our ever increasing government debt. Obama didn't create the problem but I wish that he wouldn't add to it.

  3. Lois...my point exactly...that's why I asked the questions...b/c there is NOT definitive answers to the questions...Mike...Obama may be "adding on" but he could never come close to the debt from the 8 year (and counting) war debt. I had a friend over the other day and he lamented about the fact that Obama is piling on the debt for our kids...I was astonished that he said that since he supported Bush and the war...are his kids not paying that debt for the rest of their lives??? Thanks for ur comments.

    Christianity started in Palestine as fellowship; it moved to Greece and became a philosophy; it moved to Italy and became an institution;
    it moved to Europe and became a culture; it came to America and became an enterprise.

    Some of the students were only 18 or 19
    years old--barely out of diapers--and I wanted them to understand and appreciate the import of the last line, so I clarified it by adding,
    "An enterprise. That's a business." After a few moments Martha, the youngest student in the class, raised her hand. I could not
    imagine what her question might be. I thought the little vignette was self-explanatory, and that I had performed it brilliantly. Nevertheless,
    I acknowledged Martha's raised hand, "Yes, Martha." She asked such a simple question, "A business? But isn't it supposed to be
    a body?" I could not envision where this line of questioning was going, and the only response I could think of was, "Yes." She continued,
    "But when a body becomes a business, isn't that a prostitute?"
